Musical Poems
POSTED BY Tim

william-carlos-williams.jpeg free.jpegfrank.jpg

‘Musical Poems’ applies to a group of music and sound pieces I’ve created.

They are kind of like a collage of music, sound, and spoken word.

The work was broadly influenced by early American country and folk, classical minimalism, Cindy Sherman’s film still photographs, and sound and noise in general.

The way the writers spoke the words also inspired the tone of the pieces. Writers such as Allen Ginsberg, William Carlos Williams, Carl Jung, Ken Kesey and William Burroughs.

The first ones did were;

Hard Job and Broom (click names to play). Hard Job was going to be part of a series on aircraft crashes, but never came to fruition.
The most recent one I did was called Walt - click this and have it for free.

Hope you like them.

Three of a Kind
POSTED BY Tim

three of a kind

Three of a Kind is the overall project name we’ve given to a group of three films with a number of things in common; shot on Super 8 or 16mm black and white grainy film / films based around movement and dance / short non-narrative pieces where music is a strong 50% of the experience, and may have it’s own seperate narrative / films with a certain feel.

Three of a Kind is made up of the films Waltz, Jive, and Whitman, with film by Gary Barber, and the rest by Audiobunny. Last year we showed the piece in purpose built mini cinema inside the Phoenix Art Gallery, Brighton, complete with original old school cinema seats, as part of the Pause exhibition. The strong and emotional response we got from people watching it has encouraged us to produce a DVD, and we are now in the process of sending it out to film festivals and galleries.

Contact us if you would like a free copy sent to you.

I’ve been working on some very short pieces of sound, kind of like my version of the Pearl & Dean ads in cinemas. Sort of like audio logos.

Sound Design, Web 2 and Convergent Media
POSTED BY Tim

As I’m currently researching the commercial possibilites of creating sound for virtual environments, and as a fan of of Second Life, I’ve been trawling blogs for interesting stuff. One key area seems to be the way that virtual world and social networking communities seem to be coming together and using a variety of online modes of communication.
Virtual reporter Wagner James Au’s webblog is a great source of interesting material. Read his article on how he sees the link developing between social and virtual networks.

Seahorses from (inner) space
POSTED BY Tim

seahorses-02.jpgseahorses-01.jpg

I’ve finally been able to start work on a new film which will kind of be a remix of a short by my very talented friend Matt Brownsword.

It was shot on a old VHS camera and looks amazing - seahorses suspended in water looking like beings hovering in space. It was filmed in Brighton’s SeaLife Center and shows seahorses meandering about in a large round glass bowl.

I found the images beautiful, surreal and slightly unnerving - they seem to me like strange beings from space, or the unconscious. Like some sort of Jungian vision.

DJing Friday 28th Feb
POSTED BY Tim

I’m manning the decks between bands at the Freebutt in Brighton this Friday. Performers include stand-up poetrician Gary Goodman and bands Moosbrugger and Blurt. Should be good.

I’ll be playing top tunes veering all over the place from The Hives to Glenn Campbell, from Avalanches though Mary J Blige to the Spencer Davis Group.

Yma Sumac sings
POSTED BY Tim

yma_sumac-the_ultimate_yma_sumac_collection.jpg

A friend sent me this link and it really impressed me. Very ethereal and strange. I would love to create music like this. It’s a short excerpt of film featuring the vocal talents of Yma Sumac. Wikipedia says; “In the 1950s, she was one of the most famous proponents of exotica music, and became an international success based on the merits of her wide-ranging voice, which ranges “well over three octaves” and was commonly claimed to span four and five octaves at its peak”

Beautiful.
